James H. Schoenfeldt

James H. Schoenfeldt, age 91, of North Tonawanda at the New York State Veterans Home at Batavia, on January 22, 2015 after a long illness. Jim was a member of North Presbyterian Church where he was a former Elder and Trustee. He worked at Van Raalte as a Chemist and later retired from the Hooker Chemical/Occidental Petroleum Corp. where he was a Project Engineer for many years. Jim was a World War II U.S. Army and Army Air Corps Veteran. He served in the European Theater and Patton’s 3rd Army. He was wounded and received the Purple Heart. After the war, he attended Canisius College graduating in 1950 with a B.S. in Chemistry. Son of the late Herbert E. and Ruth Schoenfeldt. Husband of the late Dorothy (nee Nicholson) Schoenfeldt and father of the late David J. Schoenfeldt.
Beloved father of Beth (William) Exton of Perry, NY, Paul (Althea) Schoenfeldt of Richardson, TX and father-in-law of Laurie Schoenfeldt. Proud grandfather of six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Friends received by the family on Monday February 2, 2015 4-7 P.M. at the Brunner Funeral Home, (692-3841), 156 Robinson St., North Tonawanda. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday February 3, 2015 at 11:00 at the North Presbyterian Church, 168 Payne Avenue, No. Tonawanda. Private interment will be at White Chapel Cemetery.
Jim treasured his family and was an attentive son, devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He deeply valued his faithful friends. He was a gentle, tender man and readily offered a smile to all. He appreciated nature and had a lifelong love for fishing and his special Canadian Lakes. The family requests that memorials be made to either the North Presbyterian Church, Wounded Warrior Project or the American Lung Association.
