Alva Jean Elinski “Jean” (nee Parmentier) age 89, of North Tonawanda, went to be with the Lord and her late husband Peter on Sunday September 28, 2014 after after a long illness. She was the daughter of the late Harry and Myrtle Parmentier and mother of the late Michael D. Elinski, and sister of the late Shirley Laribey.
She was a member of the former Ascension R.C. Church and presently a member of St. Jude the Apostle Parish. She was a Eucharistic Minister, belonged to the local chapter of AARP, Forever Young and various other organizations in the Tonawandas throughout her lifetime. Jean volunteered her time with St. Jude Parish on the Bereavement Committee and St. Jude’s Annual Carnival. She enjoyed bingo, boating with her son and daughter-in-law, traveling to visit with her daughter and son-in-law in N. Carolina, gardening and staying active. Jean always had a smile and kind word for everyone she met.
She retired from DeGraff Memorial Hospital after 17 years, where she worked in Housekeeping and then as a Nurses Aid. During WWII, she worked at Remington Rand Corp. in N. Tonawanda. NY. Beloved mother of Peter P. (Elizabeth) Elinski of Tonawanda, NY, and Karen J. (Timothy A.) Meterko of Wilmington, NC. Dear sister of Sally (Jim) Godfrey of Santa Maria, CA, Marilyn (the late Dean) Harmon of Tonawanda and Edward “Pickle “ (the late Erma) Parmentier of Linthicum, MD. Mother-in-law of Mary Jo Elinski, grandmother of Derek and Mandy Elinski and great-grandmother of Michaela. Also survived by several nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
Please come and celebrate her life with us. Friends will be received by the family on Wednesday at the Brunner Funeral Home (692-3841), 156 Robinson St., North Tonawanda from 2-4 and 6-8. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Jude the Apostle Parish on Thursday at 10:00 A.M. Please assemble at the church. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Memorials may be made to The American Heart Association or The American Cancer Society.
