Listen to Obituary

Laurence R. Plant passed away among loved ones on Monday, May 12th, 2025, in Niagara Falls. He was 84. Larry was raised in Derry, New Hampshire, where he was an All-State football player. He was selected to represent the state in Washington, DC, for the prestigious Boys Nation national leadership program. He earned degrees from Springfield College and the University of Kansas and sang in a double quartet, the Scotchmen. These experiences led to a career-long participation in campus leadership at NCCC, where he was a Professor of Psychology. He received the State University Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in 1972-73, the first year this SUNY-wide award was presented.

His lifelong interest in learning new things deepened his knowledge and experience in areas he loved, like cooking and especially gardening. He raised raspberries, cannas and vast varieties of succulents. He loved music, specifically classical and opera, and because of his earlier college singing experiences, deeply loved a Capella music. Having developed and curated a group art show, Teaching Metaphors, at his campus’s gallery, Larry continued his deep immersion in the arts. This included creating award-winning sculptures, paintings, and ever evolving explorations of color, materials and textures in mixed-media pieces. Always a lively presence, he was amused to have been singled out from the stage by performers Ringo Starr, Michael Stipe of REM and John Leguizamo, who spontaneously left the Broadway stage and hopped into Larry’s lap in the audience first row, for a laugh.

Larry is survived by Eric Gansworth and Jeffery Richardson, and a large extended family at Tuscarora Nation and friends from around the world. He enjoyed taking family and friends for boat rides on the river and through the canal in his role as “Captain Larry.” He will be deeply missed for his loving and giving nature, pollinating his world with love, nurturing and steadfast faith in the richness of meaningful connections.

There will be no visitation or funeral service. Arrangements by Brunner Funeral Home.
