Mario J. Fonzi

Mario J. Fonzi, 91, of North Tonawanda, entered into rest on July 17, 2026 after a brief illness. Son of the late Ferdinando and Santina Fonzi. Husband of the late Barbara (nee Brown) Fonzi. Loving father of Susan Fonzi (Stuart Selover), Mario A. Fonzi (Beverley Fonzi), Marla Modica (Jeffrey Pippard) and the late Joanne (Jerry) Van Kleef. Proud grandfather of Russell (Brittany Pytlik) Van Kleef, Ingrid Van Kleef, Ryan Modica, Vincent (Bethany) Modica and Alessandra Modica. Great-grandfather of Luke, Harper, Cadence, Elsie Modica, Lance James Biamonte. Brother of Louis (Barbara) Fonzi and the late Louisa (the late Dante) DeFrancesco, John Fonzi. Brother-in-law of Mary Fonzi.

Mario was a Veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. Mario started his working career at the age of 14 delivering papers and working for his father. Mario was self-employed and had many jobs ranging from remodeling, construction, plumbing, heating and air conditioning. He was a master mechanic and assistant superintendent for the North Tonawanda Department of Public Works.

His family called him "Super Mario". There wasn't anything that he couldn't do or fix. He was always there to help anyone in need. He was a true patriarch to many generations and taking care of his family was his first priority. He was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him.

Friends received by the family on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 from 4-7 p.m. at the Brunner Funeral Home, 156 Robinson St., North Tonawanda. Military honors will be presented at 7:00 p.m. that evening.
