With heavy hearts and after more than 65 years, the sun set early on Sommer St. in North Tonawanda on August 3, 2024 with the passing of Mary T. DeMart at 95 years old. Mary moved to North Tonawanda with her mother, the late Lucia Fanto, and younger brother, the late Louis Fanto, Jr., from Youngstown, Ohio to marry the boy across the street from her aunt’s grocery store. In April of 1948, Mary married Alfred J. DeMart. After 64 years of marriage and before Alfred’s passing in 2013, they raised their loving children, Kathleen (Jeffrey) Curtis, Francis (Christina) DeMart and Rosemarie DeMart. Mary leaves behind three cherished grandchildren: David (Sara) DeMart, Heather (Timothy) Bronson, and Maria (Jeremy) Batt, seven great grandchildren, along with loving nieces, nephews, and several unofficially “adopted” daughters from near and far. All of whom, along with generations of neighborhood kids, Mary has lovingly cared for, cooked for, baked for, and shopped for. She will live forever in our hearts.
Friends received by the family on Wednesday 4-8 p.m. at the Brunner Funeral Home, 156 Robinson St. North Tonawanda. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday morning at Our Lady of Czestochowa Church at 9:30 a.m. (please assemble at the church). Entombment will follow at Holy Family Mausoleum at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
The family wishes to sincerely thank Tennyson Court Assisted Living and Memory Care and the outstanding staff of Niagara Hospice for the past ten months of care.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Niagara Hospice in Mary’s name.
