Ruth Naomi Vona

Ruth Naomi Vona (nee Sauberan) age 91 formerly of North Tonawanda died on Thursday (April 8th, 2010) in Port Charlotte, FL. She was an active and long time resident of North Tonawanda. Ruth retired from Kenmore Mercy Hospital where she worked as a Ward Clerk. After retiring, she volunteered her services at the hospital. She was a member of the former Ascension Church and wife of the late John R. Vona, Sr. She was a loving grandmother to the late John R. Vona, III. Ruth was an avid reader, gin rummy player and loved baseball. She also enjoyed afternoon cocktail parties with her neighborhood friends. Loving mother of Dr. John (Joyce) Vona, D.D.S. of Silver Creek, Carole (John) Robek of Fredonia and Sun City Center, FL and Janet (Kerim) Remzi of Punta Gorda, FL. Proud grandmother of Dr. David (Judy) Vona, D.P.M., Linda (Chris) Hart, Sandy (Randy) Stewart, Daniel Vona, Lori (nee Robek) Graziani, Scott (Mandy) Robek, Shawn (Kristin) Robek, Steven Robek, Kelly (James) Guillory and Tim (Janira) Remzi. Also surviving are 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. Sister of Julia deKehoe of Rancho Bernardo, CA. Friends received by the family on Sunday 6-8 P.M. at the Brunner Funeral Home (692-3841), 156 Robinson St. North Tonawanda. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Jude the Apostle Parish, Niagara Falls Blvd. at Kingston Avenue on Monday morning at 10:00. Entombment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
